BBB Challenge #3 — Relationships

Posting something every day is becoming quite the challenge for me. Oy vey! I’m still a day behind with my challenge,  so just deal and roll with it.

My BBBC Challenge topic is this:

How hard do you think it is to find a relationship in SL? If you have an SL relationship, have you met in the physical world? Would you meet them? Do you think it would change your SL relationship if you met?

Oh, I love this topic! I could write pages about this if I wasn’t sharing it with hundreds of strangers. My opinion is that there are a lot of lonely avies in SL. I am sure many of you share this opinion. And even though I have a full friends list, sometimes I suffer from loneliness. Usually, because the one person I want to spend time with (my guy) isn’t around. C’est la vie.

My avie is almost 4 years old, and,  for the first 6 months of my SL, I wandered about speaking to no one. I was almost shy. (I am one the most introverted extrovert you’ll meet.) I was happy exploring the grid on my own. I especially avoided men and didn’t want any of the things that can be associated with the Y chromosome and relationships. I was satisfied, until I met my partner and now, I can’t imagine my SL without him, and I don’t want to imagine my RL without him.  I met him when he was just days old, system hair and all. I think I felt a twinge of empathy to his noob self, or it could have been “Take Pity on a Noob Night.”  He certainly was polite about catching my attention. So, I took a chance on getting to know him and the rest is history. He’s my best friend. (I know, start gagging now. I won’t spew and make you all roll your eyes.)

I love SL because it removes any initial prejudices of outward appearance and, if you let it, you can get to know the real person behind those pixels. I think once we do finally meet, it will most definitely change our SL relationship. How could it not?  I know it will make it better knowing the man behind the curtain. For both of us, SL is just a conduit until that day happens.
